Instant

It’s just the thing on a winters morning

Noted for the quickness in its preparation

Some aficionados might complain its not “The real thing”

Though if you checked the ingredients

And looked – Milk, Sugar, Cocoa – its all there

Noses attracted by the Chocolatey waft

That travels through the house from the Kitchen

Frosty

Its cold today

the mercury in the kitchen thermometer

wants the central heating on – quick

the water’s decided to

harden up

sticking to autumns fallen leaves

and while the sun has

popped over the horizon

jack frost paints

icy pictures on windows

Sunken

With the arrival of winter

the tarmac on the road has retreated

and replaced by the snow and rain

the car drivers loss ? dodging potholes

are the sparrows and seagulls gain

for as its not as cold as previous ones

they’re dropping in from the roofs for a dip

before heading into nearby trees and shrubs

on an impromptu shopping trip

waiting on the snow

#weather

There must be something

wrong with the thermometer

for the man at the met.office

is suggesting we all

wrap up snug and warm

in the next few days

His colleagues and pals

say “its too warm for snow”

but its hiding in the clouds

while the winds are a go

waiting for a mercury drop

when on the grasses and roofs it’ll stop

So while it’s in clouds

the wildlife will stay

having their fun and playing away

till the flakes of snow land on the ground

and they head for their nests and burrows around

Hazard

Holes in the pavement

and black ice – dont really make good conditions for

zipping about on a winters morning

as one or the other will see you flat on your back or

rolling about on the floor – worse still – the

drop might see you in a hospital bed

Airmail (image from Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie )

There were moments , she hated the winter weather

The rain, the snow and the biting hail

but while everyone was locked inside

held in by the invisible bug

she was grateful for messages

being sent across island waters

by the four winds north south east and west

Frost

Father christmas had been and gone, his

reindeer now making a beat towards the stables

outside, in the dark –

someone was playing whilst others slept

taking water from the air and leaving patterns on everything he touched

Collars Up

#Socs #Collarsup

Stream of Consciousness Saturday Banner

Considering its not the warmest

Outside, and it

Looks like autumnal weather is here

Like an old friend

Application of a Woollen Jumper or Scarf might be in order

Really good Duffelcoat or Waterproof to keep out the rain

Something tells me we’re going to need it

Until mother nature allows the mercury to rise – its best to

Prepare….stay indoors if you don’t have to go out – wrap up if you do

Sounds of Winter

#ice #snow #winter

Early morning wake up call

the winds are bawling

“Jack frosts been calling”

Dancing with the frost fairies

all across the land

And underfoot, the fallen leaves

have hardened up and stood their ground

deciding not to be pushed around

defiantly cracking as you tread

a sign they’re sleeping – and not dead.

The crunch of frosted grass – like ice

is enough for some to think twice

for as you make your way to your house

creeping into warm like a church mouse

in a nest under tiles, their covered up thrice

Pea Soup

10th January 2019

I could say mother natures been cooking,

but she’s obscured my view

I can barely see, what’s in front of me

never mind a metre or two

And the pea soup – its a moving

as it follows the warmth of the ground

its making pretty whirls and swirls

as it moves around

And its not easy when your commuting

from museum to back to home

as the fog falls on down, it makes you frown

as you might just be looking through foam!
