Hot Magenta

#CYW #HotMagenta

Salford Street sign – in Hot Magenta

Its not what you’d call a subtle colour

and it couldn’t be called pink or purple

a fiery marriage where red meets blue

but mother nature seems to like

using their off spring to bring a bit

of eye catching colour to the garden

look around you’ll see it every where else too

in signs, on walls and in windows

the future’s bright – the future’s …. Magenta

Stairs

Stairs , Image by Inky

Some would say – ascending to new heights

travelling by foot between one floor and another

aiming to reach the other floor

in time for your central heating to kick in

relaxing in your cosy sitting spot and watching

snowflakes passing the bedroom window

Painting - Sausages on a Grill

Best Beef Sausages

Are happily sizzling over

Roasting hots coals

Beefburgers drip hot fat in

Expectation of sizzling onions

Currently cooking on a skillet, while

Up on the far table – next to the sesame seeded buns

Every kind of sauce and relish imaginable – they’ve even got Curry!

Preparation

The aviators are circling

Preparing for their next great journey

It was great the past few weeks

In the warmth of a summer sun

But now they’re circling

The skies again

Getting ready to head off

To a place where it’s a little bit warmer

The cats and dogs smile at the sight

As the feathered friends flock, and prepare to take flight

Hidden chillis

Hiding in plain sight on your pizza

Innocent looking vegetable, scattered among the pepperoni

Divided by red onion and tomatoes, that ain’t no sweet pepper!

Devilish kick, and a rise in heat

Encapsulating the tongue

No wonder you’re sweating.

Cooking Poetry Seasons Summer

Cooking off hot stones

the mercury rose again today

over at the campsite….they don’t need a match

just a circle of stones baking in the mid morning sun

plonking the pan on top and waiting

waiting for the small drop of oil

to start sizzling.

Broken

Broken

the elaborate jigsaw

lies strewn on the floor

of the coffee house

jagged shards of porcelain

cast out in a circular pattern

across the marble floor

perhaps the barista

should have taken note

of the temperature of

the coffee machine

Sleeve

Sleeve

sometimes it’s handy for your average shirt to have two

long sleeves…particularly in the cold months

except right about now, planning a trip somewhere by the

equatorial line where it’ll be warmer than home

veering north, a shorter sleeve for summer months and

elevated temperatures

When i saw this prompt from cees black and white challenge, I

expect you knew the response you see – It’s blooming

Autumn, they cried!

The weather’s bound to be bad,  said some we’re gearing up for winter

Hot climates moved back, said others, towards the equator…

Everyone’s thinking of heading where its currently Summer,

Relax – I said, enjoy the White Christmas!

Outer Layers

Outer Layers

Salford 19th August 2017

They say clothes make the man / woman

well, whoever wrote that obviously lives somewhere nearer to the equator than i do.

They’ve also never experienced the phenomenon that is Horizontal Rain.

If its sunbathing weather – then obviously i’ll be in shirt sleeves and a pair of shorts lapping up the sun and the blue skies.  Dipping my toes in cold sea water to cool off before returning to my deckchair and reading material.

On a Volunteering gig ? then i’ll have the customary event t-shirt and hat and (precautionary) jacket in case of a downpour. Nine times out of ten – i’ve never needed it

If though, the angels working in the cloud – decide the ground needs a shower that waterproof jacket comes in handy….oncoming athletes in a downpour sometimes look on in envy.

As the weather changes – so does the kit.  Organising committees on these events have adapted their kits to allow for my hometown’s inclement weather patterns – meaning during midsummer thru autumn , the occasional fleece is thrown in my general direction and unlike the waterproof – these do get used on a regular basis

for after summer – if the rain doesn’t get you – the wind most certainly will.

and you can always take these layers off if the weather improves, it gets warmer, wind drops etc.  Its why they issue volunteers with a bag at events.

Notable thing at these outdoor events – how the dress code goes out of the window when the sun has got his hat on, and the ice cream van is doing a rip roaring trade.
