COLD NIGHTS

Sunday 25 November 2018

It might seem a bit funny – but I’m starting to miss the warm weather

the sun and its friend,  mercury seem to have beaten a retreat

nights are drawing in, and furthermore – so is the cold

looking out of the window, it doesn’t even look like night

but the sun has taken its leave – and outside its not bright

perhaps i should have appreciated it when it was in town

when people were sat on the beach – getting brown

For now , i’m not sat by the beach

The warmth has gone – its out of reach

So i’ll sit by the heater with reading planned

and a Mug of hot cocoa – ee thats grand!

Preparation

The aviators are circling

Preparing for their next great journey

It was great the past few weeks

In the warmth of a summer sun

But now they’re circling

The skies again

Getting ready to head off

To a place where it’s a little bit warmer

The cats and dogs smile at the sight

As the feathered friends flock, and prepare to take flight

Cold Water

Coldwater

My latest piece for Allpoetry.com

which I’ve decided to share with you all….enjoy

Fresh from a Lakeland reservoir
turned over by occasional waterfall
a polar bears delight
particularly in winter season

Hitting the receptacle crisply
it creates a bubble or two at the bottom
bringing out the flavour
of the drink it dilutes

Refreshment in Hot days
as well as cold
delivering fruitiness to the taste buds
like an bullet express train

Do you want it colder ?
then leave it in the fridge
or make it frosty instantly
with a couple of ice cubes

winters calling,

in some ways, the mercury retreating was

even the food has changed from salads to

roasts and shepherds pie

Chocolate (Acrostic)

Crafted from the cocoa bean and

Hot steamed milk

Out of the cold autumnal morning

Comes something warm and satisfying

Only your tastebuds can truly tell why you

Maybe it’s the summer weather

inviting my tastebuds to

lap up this strawberry infused delight, but i

keep on returning to it on

sun drenched days.  Perhaps it reminds me of

holidays, under a parasol …. it

always seems to

keep me cool

even in the most exceptional of temperatures

sometimes it’s handy for your average shirt to have two

long sleeves…particularly in the cold months

except right about now, planning a trip somewhere by the

equatorial line where it’ll be warmer than home

veering north, a shorter sleeve for summer months and

elevated temperatures

Enjoying the Christmas Lights

Christmas festivities have been going on a pace this week, and as a typical Salfordian Male – i made the error of letting it wash all over me till This week

Strange as it may seem though – i’ve covered everybody’s christmas presents (even dad’s)

The Nephew’s will be getting their Merlin Passes renewed – the largest purchase – and i’ll leave that till after boxing day

Mum and Little Blister have their chrimbo pressies sorted as have Dad and B-I-L but i’m not bringing up what i’ve bought them less they read this blog.

Will no doubt be meeting up with Uncles and Aunties over christmas – and purchases will be made post boxing day and delivered in the run up to new year

Happy Christmas everyone…..If it seems i’ve gone ‘off grid’  for the next few days – its because i have….this bear will be hibernating….love christmas….cant stand the cold!

Degree

Degree

As the honour was laid on him

the ennobled made a request

could the hall staff keep the dining room warm ?

he thought that it was best

see he’d climbed up great Mount Everest

without even catching a chill

but drafty University corridors

were enough to make him hold still

turn up  the heating …. tutors shouted

before our guest he does flee

we need to hear him give his speech

so see the heat up by a degree
