It’s been rolling about
In your pocket
for a while now
Waiting to bump
into its chums
on the playground floor
Travelling at some speed
into the collective
amassed
Some greet him warmly
whilst others dart off
quickly

you’ve been doing this
since you were little
toddling round the garden
Rewards ? Only you know
there’s a time to beat – from a to b
kept from the last time you did it
stopwatch started at the first step
and while you pound the sandstone and tarmac
you’re chasing down your personal prize
Obstacles a plenty – pedestrians to bollards
but aside from the medals round your neck
the best reward ? the lower number on the bathroom scales

Notable that moment , you were caught
Unawares – towels adrift and
Dressing gown cast on the floor
Expressionist – on the beach – perhaps – but in the flat – shut the door!

We’ve all played the board game of snakes and ladders before
The idea is you roll the dice, go up the ladders and down the snakes
all very straight forward , but has anyone tried playing it the other way round ?
Where you go up the snakes and down the ladders ?
It’s just as fun – and requires a lot of concentration – as you hit a ladder at the top and find yourself going down it instead of up.
We played it both ways – the reverse game is a lot more challenging.

two friends locked in a meeting of minds
heads of two mighty armies
engaging in rank from rook through to queen
keeping an eye over each army
is the ruler of the of the land at either end
night facing off against day in a battle royale
grey matter in play, as tactics employed
Knights of the realm could be toppled by this – but
Not my mum, or my aunties or Nanna
Its where i learned some very basic steps
To create a scarf for my teddy bear.
To be honest, the twists and turns of loops and purls were
Extremely difficult, but by the end of the month – i’d
Done one that was just the thing for a bear in the cold
Cast that whitelight through the prism
and let the colours scatter, we’ll be
reeling and a rocking , jumping and a jiving
under the rainbow of coloured lights till morning
maybe we’ll meet some one special –
bopping to the beat – its quite an
atmosphere
In the great scheme of things,
new or old alike
take great attention to something that
engages them – and fills the time that they call “Free”
Reading good books, or taking part in sport –
equal in weight to
somebody who decides
to undertake the activity

“No man is an island” – or so they say.
Living in Salford, Nr Manchester there’s loads of housing, which makes it a vibrant and lively community. There are Squares, in the sense of traditional gardens with houses around it, but you’re more likely to lead into a path onto a main road.
They spread out like trees, with little side streets and cul-de-sacs. The houses opposite my bedroom/office weren’t even there when we first moved into the house we’re living in. It was affectionately known as “The croft” – an overgrown waste site which housed the occasional wildflowers and with them butterflies and wild animals
So what’s on my corner – a redeveloped docks, and a dual carriageway and just up the pavement – a patch of green known as the local park, there’s two areas, Ordsall and Monmouth – but those who use it know it as Ordsall Park
Its got its own entry on the blog here

Some say its easy, splashing your feet along the sea on a
Hot summers day, but its important to be
Aware of your surroundings
Lots of people like to dive into that
Long stretch of blue water –
Only they know their limitations
When they wade into it – don’t go in too deep!
