Clear

Salford, 23rd January 2020

#fowc #clear

Cloudy skies today ? hardly

light from the sun falls down like raindrops

even the sky is a wonderful shade of blue

a warm and bright day

ready for a picnic ? we’re headed for the park

Unmapped

#Socs

source : The Fourth Bear, Jasper Fforde, P.155

when you look out towards the river

you’ll spot a swathe of green

amongst the towering skyscrapers

its the prettiest place you’ll have seen

The fathers are sat perplexed at the mo,

for they’ve been offered some cash to bestow

so long as the man wi the concrete

can dig up the trees that do grow

And the maps are recording it “Untouched”

so it costs less for builder to build

and no chance of digging up something

that will see sight of money unforfilled

But locals that live there are anguished,

and want to keep their patch of green

they’re making a move on the town hall

to ensure that the diggers not seen

On Guard

picture of a falcon
Falcon, a feathered Visitor at BASIC, (Image : Brian F Kirkham)

Salford Quays, 27th October 2019

They’re ravishing the street again

plundering pigeons like pirates

sat hovering above the people

as they look for picnics to plunder

But who’s this flash feathered hero

saving our sandwiches ?

the pigeons fly off to another perch

when they see the falcon flying

Two brothers

#octpowrimo #dogs #pointers

Two dogs…twins ? By inky

Been apart for a while , but

Really you never forget family

Out on the green fields

Two siblings meet, for the first time in a while

Happy to see each other, with

Eager calls and sniffs

Ready to run after one another for

Simply enjoying the moment

Ode to the trees

#Octpowrimo #Huggingatree

They line the road, from bottom to top

watching the people and vehicles pass by

doing their work without a word

the birds rest on their branches as they’ll flop

to trees with lots of leaves they’ll fly

the shade cast on the greens of the grass around

enjoying the cool from the suns rays unheard

out of the sun – on the shadiest ground

Playing in the side street

Salford, 25th September 2019

#Salford #Children #Parking #Gardens #Street #Sports

In order to save themselves some pocket money

the sports fans find convenient side streets

parking off the main road on the way to the stadium

One by one, they move on to empty paving

ignoring the call of the parking charge

plastered on the nearby wall

Playing fields and abandoned land

Perfect Places for those with a nose (and Permit)

to Place a spot for incoming visitors

Kids sit forlorn – as their playspace

finds itself taken over for 48 hours

by hawkers with money on their mind

Traffic jams – a certainty

as kids take over the abandoned tarmac

for an impromptu game of rounders

Slide

#fowc #slide #childhood

Childhood joy

summed up in a single word.

Something to play with

than swings, see-saws or roundabouts

Ascending to the clouds

with each big step

And then travelling at speed

to your mum and dad below

In their finest

Salford, 9th January 2019

On a Sunday morning,

In the bright sunshine

You’ll see them all

In their finest

Taking a walk

With husband or wife

Along with the children,

Escaping the strife

No work for the blacksmith

The shops are all closed

They’ve all been to church

So a walk is proposed

And while making their way

To the local town fair

Some humbugs and sweets

The family will share

As mum and dad rest

In their boaters and hats

The children play games

With the balls and their bats

Warehouse

Salford (Via Trafford Park), 3rd September 2018

This is the place

where mighty ships cargo

lay resting after its journey

after a long ride on the waves

Men toiled in the heat

as silent shipping crates

moved to the sound of the warehouse mice

avoiding the company cat

Inwards and Out

the orders of the day

some on road – some on rail

having come in from sail

To be changed in an instant

to wear or to eat

grain for the flour mill

or silk for the mayors seat

Changes in time led to changes afoot

as sons and daughters move on in their new fancy boots

dancing away to a shanty or two

like their elders before them – they think that its new!

Seat

DSC_0459.JPG

#OWPC #Park #Salford #Seat

Located on the bends

of a path worthy of the best athletes workout

two places to take five, sit down

to give those feet a moment, and

enjoy the greenery

relax amongst the trees and take in the fresh air

you’ll enjoy the view, and your feet will appreciate  the rest
