The bug

Salford 16th October 2020

I haven’t wrote much in regarding Covid – 19, but given the recent news on a proposed regionalised lockdown – here’s a mothra

A Mothra, from inky.

Well

Looking Around

Here we are

Another day of restrictions

Movements from here to there

Masked up in cause of health

while a bug we cannot actually see

attacks our friends and family for its enjoyment

irony calls – as the sun shines off the water

but there’s no chance for anyone to splash in it

simply sat on a near bench – for the briefest of moments

The many public buildings that are open – are trying their best

maximum of six – the magic number they say you can have

clear plastic screens in cafe’s , bars and museums around

even the pigeons seem to have stayed away

as the bug flies around with freedom

Distancing the order each week day

while locals await news around

bug – gone to ground

and scientists pray

bug – flies

away

Barometer

Salford, 20th January 2020

Bodies like mine, are like
a Barometer – they
react to extremes
of hot and cold – never
mind the big toe test when you
enter the water in the bath
the merest retreat of the mercury is
enough for me to seek out a cure for the
rheumatism in my back, knees, and ankles

Normal(ish)

Salford 6th June 2020

With this bug thats been floating around recently, those in the back doors of the nations governments have been referring to all the changes they’ve made in one particular phrase

The new normal

Now, we know they’ve been looking at a vaccine around the world, but before the mass testing begins – we’re sending people back to work and school before any sort of health implementation begins. Its nothing for our leaders to be proud of – the UK is only second to their American cousins in the number who’ve died….and Yet, Government Ministers – with the economy and their donors breathing down their ear – decided to send everyone back to work….we have to live with the distancing, facemasks and everything else.

They’re calling it the New Normal….forgetting this bug is still wild.

One place this isn’t taking place (Yet) – Arts and sports venues

sports fans are crying into their beer, and actors are having to use video conferencing tools to relay their plays…museums doing video clips

So while they’re queuing for miles for goods at the behest of the economy, signs “Normality” is back… are very very distant. Particularly when this Bug has its own named wards in hospitals up and down the country.

Strange Days

Salford, 9th May 2020

We’re in very strange times

the weather is wonderful

yet the pub is shut

flowers are in bloom

gardeners gone to his hut

they’re hiding away from this very small bug

and because of it we can’t give a loved ones a hug

the streets are abandoned

everyones indoors

and climbing the walls

or scrubbing the floors

Fortitude

It’s that thing that’s ultimately unique to you

despite your troubles, your aches

your problems or pains

you still manage to get through the day

all in a kind, and friendly way

Visitors

Salford. 26th March 2020

In the time’s of this nasty virus

It’s very good to know

Mother nature’s sent out a message

and the birds have said hello

For while we’ve been in isolation

our friends with their wings have flown by

to give us some pleasant distraction

from the news that’s been catching our eye

Each day they’ve come out from their nests

where nearby trees they’ve had their rest

and flew around in a bit of a show

before off to their nests they would go

Sat on a roof or a nearby tree

landing in bird baths happy as can be

and enjoying the garden all for free

taking home worms for their tea.

Broken

#Octpowrimo #Broken

more than one penny dropped

on the fall to the ground

vision went haywire while

every single memory

moved around like scrambled eggs

expectation – another rendezvous with the

neurological ward

to fix the problems caused by the drop

A twist on Snakes and ladders

Salford , 30th July 2019

Basic and spinal injury centre, Salford.

We’ve all played the board game of snakes and ladders before

Snakes and ladders board game cartoon illustration

The idea is you roll the dice, go up the ladders and down the snakes

all very straight forward , but has anyone tried playing it the other way round ?

Where you go up the snakes and down the ladders ?

It’s just as fun – and requires a lot of concentration – as you hit a ladder at the top and find yourself going down it instead of up.

We played it both ways – the reverse game is a lot more challenging.

Prone

In response to Fandango’s one word challenge

Perhaps, the pesky little twinges will

Run off and go somewhere else

Only time will tell….till then you’re

Not moving , in the

Expectation those pests will get bored

Prodding around

Salford, 16th November 2018

Sat in the dental chair

With a little bit of trepidation

Each square ivory, wiggled, scraped, and prodded

As the dentist checked for excavation

Reaction to the prodding….censored

It’s not as if they could see the hole or

Nerve they hit

Got to admit, you could hear the cry from beyond the surgery
