Morning Battle

#Morning #Battle #writeclub

Head stuck under the pillow

Feet reaching for the floor

Toes feeling the cold tingle of wood floor

and making a retreat for the duvet

Rumble of morning traffic

passing by the close by road

engaged in a battle to reach their destination

Formula 1 – but without the engine

Perhaps it was a good idea

Maybe it had to be done

But sticking your head under ice cold water

couldn’t be considered much fun

Furry

Salford 1st July 2020

#writeclub #monsters #poetry #kidspoetry

as part of my write club challenges, i wrote a piece about a “Monster” with claws and teeth and horns – more like a caterpillar with 100 Feet!

(Anyone with kids remember a Lotsa-Lotsa-Leggs ? 🙂 )

Caterpillar – doodle of a toy by inky.

I know , you know its not halloween

but i’ve got to tell you about this thing i’ve seen

snaking round Salford’s streets

with over a hundred colourful feet

A fluffy centipede , orange fur, purple hair

grown ups walking past they stare

at multi coloured spikes on his back

they move on quickly – in case of attack

If they had thought – they’d would have seen

those spikes were just fur

he want’s something to munch on

to sleep and to purr

And who does he bump into ? – our neighbours cat

who gives him some room in the upstairs flat…

so before going to bed, he eats leaves and shoots

resting on a mat, his hundred or so boots

And during the dusk, you’ll see them both play

with a ball made of wool – in a particular way

playing under the moon and having some fun

and enjoying a nap – when the day has begun

Rolling on in

Salford, Monday 4th May

It’s early morning, as i rise

and the street is busy to my surprise

for waking up the chorus (Dawn)

a pussy cat, a little forlorn

He’d spent his time, with his pals last night

playing around under the street lights

but now Ra is up, it has to be said

this furry old cat wants in for his bed

His stomach is full, thanks to a friend on the street

corned beef from a can – a most tasty treat

but his thoughts turned to breakfast, as on street he did play

so off to the garden , he began to make way

And up is his owner, so he’s through the back door

and slowly he goes off to his bed on the floor

so while humans are out, with meetings they keep

our furry old pussycat, is in bed, sound asleep

Drifting off

#Dreams #Writeclub

Salford, 30th April 2020

Drifting into a lovely dream

resting on a hundred or more feathers and a few more bouncy springs

in time i’m picking toffee apples off a nearby tree, and

four and twenty cartoon animals are joining me

to have the wonder of all picnics

in time – i’ll be going back to the run-of-the-mill routine

not until the alarm bell

goes off beyond the garden

Food

Fish and Chips – Kind Of

fish in parsley sauce – impressionist by inky.

The noble fish sat on my plate

hadn’t had a battering

it had been enjoying a bath like Cleopatra

getting all warm and tasty

Upon leaving the path it was

wrapped up in a coat of green

to enhance its wonderful flavour

and rested on a bed of buttery potato

And while it lay there in on the plate

lying in its luxury

a cohort of peas stood on a potato ridge

to keep it safe from wondering eyes

But alas all were devoured

in the haze of white and green

grappled apart by trident and sword

by the chef and his guests

“Depth”

Down among the depths, taken at the Sea life centre, Old Trafford, Manchester

Deep down on the sea bed

Eager crustaceans

Play cat and mouse with

The fishermen up above them, and

Hoping they avoid the fishermans traps as they

Scurry along the sandy sea bed
