Outrageous Orange

If anyone saw your recklessness

bounding from flower to flower

pinching the finest nectar from each one

I’m pretty sure – they’d be shocked

no wonder the bees are fed up

but people see your pale orange wings

and just smile

not knowing you’ve just done a heist in the garden

Rocket

#Fowc #Rocket

A bit of a slow burner i think you would call it

The engines went into thrust, leaving clouds in its wake

On board little tiny robots – off to explore that far off planet

Cloud formations forming behind it

Rising up through the blue

for destination coloured orange

Orange

An acrostic on the colour orange (or is that the fruit orange)

Of course, you all know this colour – its the colour of the fruit

Red meeting yellow in the paint mixing pot

As the two colours come together – colour of

Navel and Seville

Greet you as it hits the paper – its not just in fruit though

Expect to see it on the spice rack or the soup dish

Furry

Salford 1st July 2020

#writeclub #monsters #poetry #kidspoetry

as part of my write club challenges, i wrote a piece about a “Monster” with claws and teeth and horns – more like a caterpillar with 100 Feet!

(Anyone with kids remember a Lotsa-Lotsa-Leggs ? 🙂 )

Caterpillar – doodle of a toy by inky.

I know , you know its not halloween

but i’ve got to tell you about this thing i’ve seen

snaking round Salford’s streets

with over a hundred colourful feet

A fluffy centipede , orange fur, purple hair

grown ups walking past they stare

at multi coloured spikes on his back

they move on quickly – in case of attack

If they had thought – they’d would have seen

those spikes were just fur

he want’s something to munch on

to sleep and to purr

And who does he bump into ? – our neighbours cat

who gives him some room in the upstairs flat…

so before going to bed, he eats leaves and shoots

resting on a mat, his hundred or so boots

And during the dusk, you’ll see them both play

with a ball made of wool – in a particular way

playing under the moon and having some fun

and enjoying a nap – when the day has begun

Globe

#Fowc #Napowrimo

Going round the world, before the age of space

Local merchants from London to Madrid thought earth flat as a pancake

On some occasions, they said they’d fall off the edge

Before the scientists took the flat- earthers map (treated it like an orange)

End result ? something that looks a little more round

Bite

Salford 11th April 2020

A sweet sounding prompt from the inkwell

Hi Folks

Inky back with another photographic delight from the inkwell.

all sorts of candy treats….from milk chocolate bears to candy bananas……

Yes. it is the last day of lent…and yes it has been a pain knowing just where i’d stashed all that yummy stuff away till now

However , Given the odd sunday allowance and my birthday tea –

i reckon i’ve done rather well from abstaining from the sweet stuff,

there is of course one thing that re-emerged on my birthday

And its not being opened till Bank Holiday Monday 🙂

As its easter – and im doing Napowrimo – here’s a little something sweet inspired by Matthew Tomlinson’s sweet shop at Salford’s Lark Hill Place

It’s called Pick and Mix

Open up your bag, and round
your choice of sweets for just a pound
a choice of sweets, is hard to choose
with more than just the penny chews.

Some candied shrimps, some lemon drops
chocolate footballs, fizzy pops
Bonbons of strawberry, cola cubes
Dolly mixtures and sherbet in tubes

Candy lollies in different flavours,
Fruit sherbet drops with tastes to savour
lemon pastilles, and aniseed balls
and space dust that’s fizzy to not one kid but all

Chocolate cups, a favourite for me
were usually the thing to be eaten wi’ glee
But don’t eat them all now, or else there won’t be
any room left in your tummy for tea!

Lightness

#Octpowrimo #Lightness

Salford, 29th October 2019

As summer draws to a close

and green leaves turn to red

the leaves of the less evergreen

aided by wind rain and streams

float off in a dream, light as a feather

to their final resting spot

where they leave a mark of colour

on the paths around them

Copper

In response to Thursday Photo Prompt

The woodland’s changing colour

from lush juicy greens to rustic reds

and painting a picture with a message

on the woodland paths

with each colourful crunch – “Winter’s coming”

Burnt Orange

A head to turn heads

When you entered the room

Instantly, you turned the boys heads

Like Desdemona had arrived

Dynamic

Heaven’s angel mixed with Hell’s fury

Only time would decide what happened next

Meeting up with old friends

By the banks of the waterside

Reality – you would be back at your post come morning

Expectations – out of the window.

Atomic Tangerine

#CYW #Atomictangerine

Atomic Tangerine Rose created by inky in Photoshop elements

As they shook up the bottle of fizzy fruit juice

A fantastic reaction began

Bubbles rose up to the top of the bottle

Bursting to escape

Crazy idea – of the kids – was releasing the bottles

Cap – with the addition of air – reaction was complete

Destination for the neon orange liquid – No one knew – they all

Dived for cover – as fizzy orange rain fell

Expectation – the vegetable patch

End result – over Grandpa’s prize white roses
