Penny Farthing

#poetry #victorian #transport #wheels

A penny farthing, Passing the lowry in Salford. Stock Photo by Alamy – Messed about a bit by Inky.

Look at Me!
on a Victorian street,
a marvellous thing
that’s hard to beat

I rest by a wall
where I stand up tall
I can be seen by the noble
the Blacksmith , and all

My rider sits down
on th’seat – wood and brass
Awaiting a whistle
Allowing him to pass

And as I pass toy shop
the children all cheer!
As adults enter hostelry
picking up beer

And as I pass neighbours
on pavement nearby
Pigeons on Barbers roof
begin to fly

As the rider moves off
I begin to wobble
with my wheel catching corner
of raised shiny cobble

But my rider is careful
– or else he would fall
so he keeps his head high
and body straight and tall

Manchester Museum is located by the Victoria University of Manchester on Oxford road, and is known primarily for its Archeological and Historical Artifacts.  In fact, there’s a special exhibit that greets you at the entrance – his name is Rex.

As part of the artifacts, you will come across the Egyptology exhibits – The Victoria Museum is known for its Mummies

One of these artefacts actually came down the road from Salford and is still known as the Salford Mummy to this day, so its nice to pay her a visit!

Salford Museum is the Home of Lark Hill Place, a Victorian Street that shows how people lived during that time – there’s the old cobbles and washing lines, and you’ll hear the sounds of the Grocers, the Blacksmith and the chemists

Corridor

What lies behind the corridors

tween power and learning ?

a path to who knows where ?

questions are asked in the buildings on the east

while questions are answered in the building to the west

fancy seeing what lies beyond the lights?

Antique brass

#coloryourworld #antique-brass #cyw

img_0091

At times you could mistake it for gold

with it’s off yellow patina

Decorating houses 🏡 with things from time gone by

But it’s much more valuable than that

To each wooden door 🚪 its castings and shapes

Bring a smile to those who are greeted by it

As younger successors buckle bridles and shoes

And animals awake their owners

As they knock on front doors around the land

Impressions

Corridor

This is a piece of Digital Art, Created by me after a visit to Manchester’s City Centre

It’s one of my favourites, Created with my Samsung Camera and Corel Painter.  The subject matter being the corridor between Manchester’s Central Library and the Town Hall building.  The sun was in the right place and provided just the right light.  Upon painting, I used a light blue hue to bring out the shadows.  Using an impressionist brush really produced a striking image.

Iwm Waterside

Another Impressionist Pic – this time of IWM North,

on the Banks of the Manchester Ship Canal

I took this pic, whilst on a walk around Salford Quays.  Having taken the image I used Adobe photoshop elements to produce the digital art.  I like this image because of the way the light reflects off the airshard.

Bridgewater

The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester

A marvellous concert venue, this painting was created from a photo I took on a walk around the city centre.

A tale of Lark Hill Place, Salford by inky.

As you walk into Lark Hill Place,

and head over limestone and cobbled space

at the end of the street, something catches young eyes

in Radcliffe’s toyshop there on by

Stuffed toy animals, puzzles and blocks

Snakes and Ladders, and marbles from rocks.

Noah’s ark, animals – punch and judy too

Made for the kid who’s after summat new.

Whipping tops provide a young lad with a smile,

whilst saving his pocket money for a brief while

praying that Santa will deliver of course

a brand new and wonderful bright rocking horse

But for now he’ll play marbles wi’ kids on the street

and then after chores head to shop for a treat

then he’ll play with his animals on the step or in th’park

before heading for bed – just before dark.
