Greece, Holidays, Poetry

Manchester (Via Rhodes) , 5th November 2018

As the fire took hold of the wood

I watched magical trails rise high in the air

Releasing colourful patterns in the sky

Rhodes ancient buildings painted

Over by Beautiful light

Created by Ignition – rising over walls and

Keep of the old city , bringing smiles to

Excited children and adults alike

Taking vacations on the island

Peculiar

Peculiar

A reflection.

Sat a cafe bar on a greek island, enjoying fish and chips

taking in the breeze off the azure blue sea and

observing the comings and goings of the day – when

reactions are heightened by two feathered locals

kept company down the marble path by their owner

! i’d tell you what they were – but i reckon you would guess!

A San-San poem – Origins rooted on the Greek Island of Crete

Honeybee.jpg

On holiday by a grecian water

I saw a flying insect having some tea

it flew for the pollen from flower to flower

occasionally passing a grecian sun or daughter

it was happy to pass through the flowers this bee

till it was time to head for home

where it spend a passing hour

away from the sun making honeycomb.

Magnificient

All the girls on the Cretan sands go to great lengths to highlight their beauty

Understandably, its what grabs the boys attention

Veering an eye towards the girls on the sands

Everyone recognises a precious gem on the beach

Long flowing locks and Lashes to attract the most shortsighted beefcake on the

Line of white sands

opposite the cerulean blue sea

unusually – she’s sat – mopping up the rays on her own – but soon

she’ll be sipping cocktails with her new beau by the bar

Unfinished

During the sackings of Rome and Greece

The builders fled the construction site

Leaving the temple and markets to birds

As angry protesters had their words

The wreckage that built up was left in the sand

till one day a man from museum had plans

to recover the buildings located by sea

and learn of the heritage of the site for free

Flame of Hope

Dreams, Greece, Poetry, Sports

olympic_trouch

Every four years, the torch guides the way

for sportsmen and women to come out and play

joining up countries, some new and some old

whos athletes are aiming for medals of gold

Created in Athens, the Olympian way

the Ancients in Athens, called out to say

we’ll meet you in Rio … now go tell them all

and out went the runners receiving the call

Flame passed between runners, across the sea

a symbol of hope for you and for me

passing through countries far and wide

spreading the nations Olympic pride

Through London and Paris in Olympic Squares

celebrations of the flame take place here and there

Passed along Spritely by the old and the new

As excitement builds … expectations do too

So, come on and watch, as the sun shines ahead

and cheer on the athletes who’s ambitions are fed

by support of the nations, supporting their team

Welcoming heroes …. fulfilling their dream

First Sight

First Sight

A perfect blue sky

Sunbeams raining down reflecting over every wave coming off the sea

A sandy beach interdespersed with watersmoothed tiles and pebbles

The sand so soft you sunk into its coolness

The sea excitedly lapping towards your toes enticing you in

The local fish saying hello circling round my feet

They tickle as they nibble at my soles

Have I arrived in paradise ? who can tell ?

Maybe I’ll know after I’ve had lunch….

Blue sky thinking (Again)

A bright sunny day makes my optimistic side sing.

Particularly when the sea isn’t too cold to dip your toes in.

It has two benefits – firstly it cools you down – my inner thermostat appreciates the coolness of the water.

Secondly those waters were teaming with little tiny fish that swam around my feet as I put them in the water – Instant Pedicure!!!

No Need for a Podiatrist on this beach….

Off I go for a paddle in the blue.

listening to the sound as the sea laps against your feet – Heaven!

Eye Spy

The Question is…who spotted who first ?

You see, I was sat on the veranda of my Turkish holiday apartment in Oledeniz, when this chap popped from behind a tree to say “Hello!”

And then he started following us around the hotel complex and the nearby beach – passing from tree to tree with his feet, and saying “Hello” to us and other guests willing to give him some time.

I don’t know what attracted him, but I could guess it was a small amount of fruit left on a nearby bird table – anyhow, upon seeing me – he kept on popping up around the gardens on the resort, if not for the fruit – the supply of fresh water spraying around the flowers!
