Mislaid Valentine

Salford 15th February 2019

Charlie Brown

waited for the postman

for a response to the card he sent

to the red haired girl – across the field

unfortunately

he missed him

as Snoopy was dining on the card

that fell on the Brown’s hallway floor

Rendezvous

Manchester (via salford) 16th December 2018

The on line post it notes

Continued to drop in my in box

Reminiscences from a female acquaintance

I knew since I was small.

Meet you by the market

Where the gluhwein flows

And the big tree is lit up by the national grid

So, off to town goes Charlie Brown

To meet his gorgeous tinker-belle

Wrapped up like a bug

All nice and snug

Where under the lights

Of Christmas bright, we walk round the stalls

Decorating the halls

And after a repast and a drink

A kiss in the square where

We met up, there.

Charlie

Who am I, life’s Charlie Brown ?

For she catches my eye, and I’ve fallen down

Tongue tied with her beauty, so close at hand

Even though the words in the head I’d planned

a wonderful sight, with a beautiful mind

sometimes she’s harsh, but on the whole she is kind

Catching me out with those dark brown eyes

Occasional glances catch me by surprise

Heart rising by a beat when she’s so near

No more than friends, to me that is clear

Talking shop on the backyard, sharing an occasional smile

With the girl with the red hair, I want to stay awhile

Fragile heart

i gave her my heart

and she took a hammer to it

shattering as it did in pieces

across the dance hall floor

in one moment

and a fleeting goodbye kiss

she left me standing in the middle of the sparkle lit room

with a crowd and a mark

Filled the passing hours

with nothing but a face

casting eyes over

old photographs

took time to rebuild

the emotional jigsaw

a piece of the jigsaw lies missing

could that be you ?

Fireworks on the dance floor

I

I wanna be that fellow

That dances with the redhead

In a Viennese waltz

At the end of the night

Ii

I want to guide her

Around the floor

Her dainty feet skipping

Off the glitter ball lights

Iii

Eyes on the prize

As lights skip on the floor

And Rose Red dances delightfully

With her Prince Charming

Iv

Captivated by her delicate poise

Our movement just floating … hardly a noise

And watching us both….a bit of a crowd

Though it’s only the music that seems a bit loud

V

Fireworks ? Magic as we travel around floor

The crowd they applaud and yell out for more

But as spotlight leaves us, something they’ll miss

In the dark of a second, a surreptitious kiss

Standstill

Standstill

Time stands still for a while

a second before

i think i caught the eye

of the girl in the polka dot dress

so while everythings frozen in time

i casually make my way over the platform

and pop a message in her bag

will it work?

Time will only tell

Awkward

Awkward

A moment occured

when you expressed your affection for that girl at the bus stop with a

kiss…only for the romance to die

when you shuffled about

against the bus stop pole – in full view of the

remaining passengers, it might seemed

dramatic – and some old ladies smiled (all you could do was look downwards)

Magnetic

Magnetic

I

Maybe they didn’t see it coming

A pull , so

Great, the largest

Nuts and bolts couldn’t resist the

Ever powerful force coming

Towards them

In the air they flew

Caught by the big round thing

II

Mademoiselle’s

Amourous intentions

Gravitating in

Nuptial

Expectation

Towards her

For centuries, the makers of perfume have made

Romantic smells from the humble garden

Animated – and captured with oils wine and water

Girls grab their latest favourite – in an attempt to

Reach out – without a step – to the lad of their dreams

Attraction can be immediate – turning heads

Never think that it’s the scent alone that does it –

Cupid’s arrow is fickle at times – but

Every girl knows – to get his attention – it’s a start!
