Squadron

A write club acrostic, written by inky.

#Imperialwarmuseum #Airfix #Planes #Squadron #Military #Aircraft

Sat atop a great height

quite a few planes, old and new

used to being in hangars, have found

a home by the waters of a canal

definitely a peacetime operation

red arrows escorting a Spitfire veteran and

other D-Day participants – resting on their runway

new recruits ready to escort them from another bookshelf

History

#FOWC #History

Heralds wrote tales down in books, while

in caves, our ancestors painted the tales on walls

some documenting the building of great monuments

then others, telling tales of the horrors of war

of course, the stories that remain are the ones in the books

retold by scholars for minds of a different age, and

yet – time passes by – and History moves forward

Salford 16th February

A piece on school visits

Three coaches rolled up in the car park

One blue, one black, one green

Passing auntie, the football and the shops

Traffic jams were no fun

Or Waiting for the man with the sign to

Pass go from stop

There were grumbles getting off the coach

Old Trafford exchanged for the war museum

Pupils listening to sir, bore on

The security …. more of the same, but

Out of a corner….a new name

Person from a new place….change of space

Tanks and planes…new things to see

Objects to touch….and all for free

People to tell tales of air land and sea

And your guide at the entrance is about the space

A person to turn to with a friendly face

Telling a tale of the car, plane and gun

Making your visit a bit more fun

Recipe for Learning

Salford 5th February 2020

A tale of a meet and greeter at IWM North, Manchester

Take a good handful of young minds

and interesting artifacts from a fire engine to a British tank

under some really unusual lighting

give them a tale of a teapot smashed and

hold their attention with items in a display – leave for 5 –

then let them handle an old helmet or two

! While you tell them all about it !

Octpowrimo – Day 22 – Broken pieces

#Octpowrimo #Brokenpieces

Imperial War Museum North, Manchester UK (via the Inkwell), 22nd October 2019

How does someone express the act of war ?

take you through a hundred years

and tell that tale – that no one else can tell anymore.

The man with a vision

took a thing for brewing his cuppa

and changed it into something – iconic

Smashed with a hammer

Earth air and water

came together and reformed

Falling at the side of a waterway

painted by a painter

who’s centre stood next door

And in the evening sunlight

the air shard shone as shimmering light

cascaded off its solid steel

Morning beckons

and the tales from the shards

can be heard across town

from the tales within.

Challenge 30 – No17

Behind the scenes

1st February 2019

A couple of Shots from the Lens of my Nikon Camera

The First shot – taken at IWM Duxford, in Cambridgeshire, Taken from under the wing of a Lancaster Bomber.

The Second Shot….setup of experimental shots with BASIC Clicks, capturing Water Movement. This shot was a bit of a group effort, as each part of the shot from pouring the water to setting up the deflector took 1 person each in its creation

IWM North, Manchester 17th November 2018

From time to Mother nature has been at the

Implanted ceramics by the canalside

X-tra ceramic poppies have had to be brought in

Even barriers – and broken ones have to be sent to the poppy hospital

Damage repaired with Slip and Glue (and more red paint)

IWM North Rave

#octpowrimo

A year to remember

else everyone forgets

the sacrifice of those

who joined up fighting

for king and country

each one now a memory

flowing down from the earth

a century later

Poppies

DSC_0064.JPG
Wave – On display outside Imperial War Museum North , Manchester (p) Brian F Kirkham Sept 2018

Red poppies are flowing down the top of the earth shard of IWM North

Each poppy was created to remember those who fell in the war to end all wars

Memorial to the host of soldiers who went to the front

Expecting to be home by Christmas

Men not only from the home nations,

But the commonwealth and allies from Europe too

Regiments who met and fought on a field in flanders

As part of the first world war centenary, this artwork is a

Noted reminder, of those who went away to fight and

Came to rest in a foreign field

Each one remembered in the symbol of the poppy

Mathilda

Matilda2-545x408

IWM North, September 2018

an acrostic poem by inkdrop, on the newest arrival in the Main exhibition space of

IWM North in Trafford….

Made up at the Locomotion works in Bolton

A Machine to bring terror to the enemies eyes

Thundering across land and desert

Hot on the tail of any enemy Infantry

In time, tales would be told about her and her thundering wheels

Launching shells and ammo towards the enemy

Dangerous ? all missions are aren’t they

Allies relying on this mighty armoured tank
