composed of the finest oak

now sat in the middle of the kitchen

with his four cousins , the chairs

busy at four points – North south east and west

where a home for fresh fruit sits at its centre

a shiny bright blue glass bowl.

A meeting point for the hoo-mans

at breakfast lunch and tea, where our

humble hero gets rewarded with occasional drops

from breakfast, soup, or roast dinner

abstract patterns left – impress the best of old masters

but the sight of a cleaning cloth – a welcome distraction

before a new garrison of knives forks and spoons

encircle the fruit bowl.
