Coffee Shop Poet

#writeclub #coffeeshoppoet

“John at the bar is a friend of mine – he gets me my drinks for free” (Piano Man – B.Joel)

Somethings brewin’

not in the kettle

and not in the coffee machine but

paper’s developing a masterpiece

Created in the Coffee shop

out of observations

fixed in the mind

flowing words fall on to the page

ears prick up at the news

everyone there wants to hear it

Performed on an impromptu stage

as you read it in front of a mic’

some like it, some don’t, some love it

that’s your audience for you

rewards ? – Gold , Silver, Nickel or Copper

You’ll get your snacks for now’t

Breakfast Time (Image By Inky)

Your uses are many,

Crafted from the finest hardwood

you support the humble tableware that rests upon you

you might bemoan the kitchen chairs

but its the silver spoons, and knives and forks

that the hoo-mans use that rest on you

and its you they congregate round when

the fish and chip suppers are rested on a friday morn

the little uns do their writing and sums

and occasionally do something crafty with mum and dad

when paint and sticky stuff go all over you

your reward ? a good wipe down and a bit of polish

and when its one of those special days

you’ll be all dressed up in your finest

to show off an extra special dinner or tea

Recipe for Learning

Salford 5th February 2020

The Fire pump issued to the Ferranti Works in World War II

A tale of a meet and greeter at IWM North, Manchester

Take a good handful of young minds

and interesting artifacts from a fire engine to a British tank

under some really unusual lighting

give them a tale of a teapot smashed and

hold their attention with items in a display – leave for 5 –

then let them handle an old helmet or two

! While you tell them all about it !

The terrace at No3

#Octpowrimo #Cobbledstreets #England #Northern #Salford #Lancashire

A piece of poetry by inky, based on the terraced house on Lark Hill Place. A restored Victorian Street in Salford’s Museum and art gallery.

Old building by cobbles,
Oak table , and chairs
Copper kettle boiling on the stove
near to the stairs

Fruit from the Grocers,
cutup and cored,
is ready for the pie bowl
in the oven its stored

Washboard, and Dolly Tub
in Backyard unhooked
ready for washing
that’s been overlooked

And when its been cleaned
and gleaming with pride
they’ll dry on a line
on pegs hanging outside

Cut up apples in a bowl

Sweep by the cobbles

some work is his goal

so he watches the chimney

as the food cooks on coals

And today, family living here
is having them a guest,
so they’ve laid out the cutlery
and porcelain that is best.

Victorian table, set for dinner with Plates for Soup, mains and pudding.

Caribbean Green

#cyw #rock #marble #Green #Caribbean

They dug down deep to find this rock

The shade of the Caribbean sea

Look carefully and you might find a wave or two

Captured in the smooth cut surface

that your breakfast has been served on.

Hive of activity

Salford, 1st January 2019

#newyear

Since the bells chimed at twelve

Dads been keeping a closely guarded secret

It’s been cooking slowly in the oven

While side dishes bubble away on the hob

Table set, in all its finery

Just waiting for the star attraction

To make its grand appearance

Messy

Messy

It might look like world war three has arrived in the kitchen

but in reality , a masterpiece has been created

sticky fingers and flour dust on kitchen tops

even more on the cupboard doors and floor

colourful paintwork adorned on the table tops

while the finished article hangs on the refrigerator door

and all created to send out a message

“Happy Mothers Day!”

Hard to see through

Opaque

Opaque

On the whole – its hard to see through glass like this

Perhaps , that’s why, instead of windows – it’s used to produce

Antiques of the future – vases and chargers and such

Quaint – in the way the colours scatter through it

Unlike the light , captured by the spectrum of colour

Enjoyed by everyone who sees it – sat on the mantlepiece

Darn that table!

Uneven

The kitchen fairy has been at it again

pinching a footpad or two from the kitchen table

you notice their action

as little veg strive to become escape-peas

The family pooch is drooling

as table slips and slides

and silver surfaced platters

around the table ride

Turkey ready for serving

in oven it awaits

as peas, parsnips and carrots

roll about on the plate

But light hits our family chef

and gets him off the hook

sliding underneath the feet

a perfectly weighted cookbook

So table will be fixed for pud,

with a couple of little pads of wood

and pooch for now will have to enjoy his ball

and not the turkey that was saved from a fall.
