The terrace at No3

#Octpowrimo #Cobbledstreets #England #Northern #Salford #Lancashire

A piece of poetry by inky, based on the terraced house on Lark Hill Place. A restored Victorian Street in Salford’s Museum and art gallery.

Old building by cobbles,
Oak table , and chairs
Copper kettle boiling on the stove
near to the stairs

Fruit from the Grocers,
cutup and cored,
is ready for the pie bowl
in the oven its stored

Washboard, and Dolly Tub
in Backyard unhooked
ready for washing
that’s been overlooked

And when its been cleaned
and gleaming with pride
they’ll dry on a line
on pegs hanging outside

Cut up apples in a bowl

Sweep by the cobbles

some work is his goal

so he watches the chimney

as the food cooks on coals

And today, family living here
is having them a guest,
so they’ve laid out the cutlery
and porcelain that is best.

Victorian table, set for dinner with Plates for Soup, mains and pudding.

Stumped!

Salford 13th July 2017

Stump

The powers that be

planted big deciduous trees

in the grounds of a locality

so it would look nice

for the men with money

The local kids – loved it

Playing games under the leaves

and climbing up high on the branches

getting a view of the boaters

on the watery basin

Change of heart

led to a start

where wood was taken apart

for parts of a chair

the kids – they just stared

Returning to the scene

of the crime extreme

either side of the lane

stumps of wood – showing grain

and locals anger does mount – all kids do is count

For what was the point

of cutting down a grand high tree

that caused no problems for any of thee

when all the wood from tree that’s bought

just goes into a chair – that makes you look short ?

2nd January 2017

It’s that place away from the winter weather,

never understated – because it’s yours

tables and chairs in the kitchen-cum-diner, settee and TV in the lounge

each room containing its own mark made by you

rugs with interesting patterns laid on hard wood floors

intrinsic patterns that took an age to fit

on the whole – its the way you thought it out, a

really nice, warm and inviting home.
