lined up by the rope
ready to travel quickly down
the water to win
the Christmas contest prize crown
powered by waddle
from inkdrop – poetry, places and events

As he was patched up
by the noble paramedics
the champion cyclist
reflected and learned something new
speed isn’t always the best way to go
he recuperated with a cup
of tea at the cafe
while he gave the watching bowls team
something new to talk about
of course if he’d taken a minute
he would have seen the squirrel
crossing his path
and maybe the lifted tree root
that sent his bicycle wheel flying

A bird’s got to get some sleep
After travelling over land and sea
All to find the perfect spot for
A nest to rest her egg (or two)
And it might be in
A countryside plot or even up in
An urban waterside
All it needs is the space
And when her chick is out of the shell
At the start of a new day
A whole new list of things to appears
As little un begins learning

A response to Melissa Lemay’s excellent poem you can find here https://melissalemay.wordpress.com/2025/11/26/time-doesnt-fly/

so Time Does Not Fly ?
Tell it to the clock that flew
off the bedroom wall
or perhaps the clock
that took a fall from cupboard
towards bedside rug
or maybe the watch
outside during playtime fun
lifted by magpie

Winter’s Arrival
has already begun say
deciduous trees
providing the winds
with colourful playthings
around their trunks
and while birds fly on
they watch the coloured leaves dance
happily through the air
but it’s cold that side
of the window pane
so on the warm side – i stay

sat around a tasty looking plaything
perched on a table covered in seed
as they peck away at the contents
reactions to something new flood the chatter
really nice morsels among the seeds
out of nowhere – a taste sensation
where its come from ? the clue’s above their beaks
sausage and bacon crumbs from the hoomans breakfast plates

it begins with flour, eggs, cocoa and sugar
all meeting up in the family mixing bowl
when it comes together
the dough is rolled out on the baking tray
and it’s given a bit of sun in the oven
meanwhile candied peel and glace cherries
dance away in whipping cream
while chocolate melts slowly on the hob
there’s a ping – and out comes the sponge
and when ready – it meets the fruity cream
and then rolled up creating a festive spiral
before being drizzled in yummy chocolate
and left to settle in the fridge
