While Dad did a spot of Do-it-yourself
Mum took the Children for a Spot of Lunch
They followed their Mum down the riverbank
where some of the tastiest fish were waiting
and as they all glided through the water
they dipped down below
for some tasty treats
even returning to their home
with some tasty nibbles for their dad

the little ducks looked
tentively
at the water in front of them
as they dipped their beaks
it felt cold – after all – it was winter
they liked the reflections
but were reluctant to get their beaks wet
too heavy for mum to carry them
so dad stepped in
with a little encouragement
easing them off the bank

the bedroom rug
of pastel blues
had seen better days
so father decided
to throw it away
heading for somewhere
not very far
but because of its size
transported in car

a noble tradition
out in all weathers
collecting the best produce
his customers could desire
while you are asleep
he fills his van with seasonal greens
rich red tomatoes
and carrots and potatoes for the Sunday lunch
not forgetting apples and pears
for a teatime snack

saw the decorated chef
move away from the comfy confines
of the well equipped kitchen
Barbecue vapours
drift in the cold winter air
towards the scout troop hut
only decisions made
by party of young cub scouts
Brown sauce or ketchup

the sight of flowers in the field
brings a smile to young faces
carefully walking through the grass
they pick out the colours
provided by spring
and then hand them to someone special
raising a smile
veritable jungle
explored by the mighty beast
travelling through grass
food in abundance
while dangers lie around in
every direction

You might have been mistaken
with recent blue skies
that winter this time round
was nothing but a flurry and frost
a short cold foray into
warmer. colourful spring
signs this wasnt so
the birds taking cover
as westerly winds blew in
and the clouds above
dropped something different
from your average rainfall
turning green grass white
and giving the kids a chance
to wear their christmas hats, scarves and gloves

Sat by the water
watching the buffet pass by
the fish dart about
and panicked birds they all shout
water moves and flies
And i don’t expect any cheers or applause
just watch as i catch lunch
in my powerful jaws
