Wild Life

I

Friday night in the Manchester Air

the birds are out for the night

in certain spots where the birdseed flows

and neon lights paint the town

sometimes red, sometimes blue

II

Cats are out, and on the prowl

kings of their own domain

out in their preened green jungle

playing with their catnip toys

sounding out an evensong

before tucking into an impromptu lunch

III

Down by the deep and

Under the shade – sounds of feathers moving under the bridge –

Canard and his friends enjoy their grub – discussing days events

Keeping close together

So they keep the little ones warm

IV

Four paws return from patrol

result from the hunt ? Minimal

no chance of a fishy surprise – so he lets out a wail

but what’s this? something meaty awaits

by the cat blanket

V

Who’s this coming up the garden path

playing in the snow and rain

big paw prints heading for the door

tail in the air, big wet nose on the floor

grown up puppy asks – Hello! Time For Tea? I Would Agree.
