Things left behind

It’s not like you intentionally did it

despite meticulous planning

down to the last second

you left some items on the mantlepiece

on your way out of the door

So as you make your way to the station

Your tickets and wallet in hand

with your bags and suitcase all with you

its just as you had planned

Alas, there’s something missing

Left on the kitchen table

Your passport to sunny times, you’ve left behind

so back home you go if you’re able

So while others have jetted off, to sun sea and sand

a return taxi home, for yourself is planned

while they enjoy, eat drink and play

Your time in the sun, has been cut short by a day
