The Christmas tree lights twinkled

as the girl stared under the tree

bright shiny gifts propped around the base

like supporting stones

expectations fulfilled ? perhaps – but

there was always something that

santa didn’t deliver – leaving an air of disappointment

    I really like your response. To me, it captures both the beauty and the melancholy in the picture. Most of the lines are exciting and happy, yet it ends on kind of a low note.
