and bugs of all kinds
pay the pixies a helpful visit
looking out for crops

made from the crops the farmer

what book am i reading right now ?
The Machine Gunners by Robert Westall
A book i’ve been reading time and time again
i first came to it in the early eighties in English lessons, but as time passed, i kept on reading it.
a boys own tale of “souvenir” hunters in World War II, a fallen German bomber and its Machine Gun
with all the adventures and dangers that come with it
i returned to the book, during a book exhibit at Imperial War Museum North , where exhibits associated with the book were on display
the book can be purchased from most good bookstores in paperback from Macmillan, where you’ll get change from six pounds (even if it is just a penny!)

There’s a spot in the forest
that many a furry animal
hangs out at
Birds eat the berries
while the squirrels eat the nuts
as the gophers enjoy a feast
Tasty morsels from the base
that the gophers simply think they’re ace
all located in one particular place

Pie is cooking in the kitchen
under the flame of the gas oven
made from the innards of the lantern
placed outside the front door that
keeps a watch for junior ghosts and ghouls
it calls out – knock – if you dare as
nice or naughty imps call out “Trick or Treat”!

listen very carefully
they’re heading down your street
looking for plastic and paper and glass
and other tasty treats
and they know which places to go to
as their treats are by the gate outside
lined up on the edge of the road
waiting there with pride
see the bins are all different colours
so the munchers know what’s there to eat
and brighten up a dull morning
when lined up down the street
and soon all the stuff thats recycled
will turn up in a different way
as bottles or playmats , racquets or bats
used on the sports ground in play

Silly old puddytat
Sits, peering out of the
Sitting room window
While he patiently
waits for
something silvery
served up by
servants from the pantry
Maybe the old Egyptians
had it right all that time ago
for while you think
they’re serving you attention
you’re the one worshipping them

Piled up high tween two bits o’ barmcake
under the bread lid you’ll find summat reet tasty
lovingly marinated in a spicy sauce and
lavished with salad and onions
exceptionally flavoured with paprika and cumin
dancing around the pallette with each bit
perfection comes with what it’s served with
often served with with fries, sometimes coleslaw
real barbecue flavour in every chomp
keeps the patrons coming back for more

Something different served
out of the tapas bar today
because while they looked like the
regular meatballs – there was something extra tasty
a little something that brought a zing to the
sauce of the dish – with the rosemary
and it was like a salami or a chorizo
delicately spiced bringing flavour to the dish

The Clock hand moves on
as it ever did
keeping things happily ticking over
in the darkness
giving no-one a clue they’ve gained an hour
and people may spend that hour
navigating the house – and turning
hour hands on watches and clocks back
or even spending that gained hour in bed
unusually – those in charge didn’t tell the nesting birds,
rising from their nests in the trees an hour earlier
