The path you follow
is one you decide to make
journey here to there
pathways cutting through
grasses and heathers wilder
taking in the air
but keep your eyes peeled
for long journeys can be shortened
just look down the road
short path over bracken
gives the traveller a break
from stone and tarmac
This reminds me to Thomas the Rhymer, as sung by Steeleye Span a goodly span of years ago
“Don’t you see yon bonnie bonnie brae, that is the route to fairy land where you and I must go this day.”
I might have misquoted. Has been a long while

As for the poem – I just saw that path off the tarmac and thought – What If ?
