The Inkwell

from inkdrop – poetry, places and events

Down by the water

they planted some trees

they came down the road

on the back of a lorry

The labourers dug holes

for each little tree

and they lined down the walkway

to residents glee

But soon with the seasons

trees started to grow

and roots poked through pathways

looking for some place to go

So after the blossoms

in summer made it nice

the trees they were trimmed back

the ultimate price

For while others had plumage

Reds, yellows and browns

saws chopped back their growth

as they went to town

And wildlife they wondered

somewhere else to play

as they waited for their playhouse

to grow back some day
