It was looking rather sorry for itself

around Christmas time

while the evergreens shone with their festive green

the acer sat among its rocks looking bare

but as time passed by, and as big ben sounded

while the mercury moved just a little bit

the acer began to wake up

as little buds began to appear

March arrives – you’d call it spring

and the acer is beginning to sprout

bringing colourful flowerbuds to the rockery

The leaves are growing like wildfire

while the birds they are starting to sing

as they wait for the flowers to appear

and the goodies that they bring
