Where did all the birds go?

#writeclub #birds

Back in summer – they were everywhere

soaring through the skies

landing on the green grass

giving everyone a surprise

But, soon the west wind traded spots

with north and to the east

perplexing swallows in the trees

and by water, ducks and geese

Some of the birds left early

and headed off to the warmth of the south

while others spent under cover

as they fed their little one’s mouths

But the locals, they’re a hardy bunch

and built some sturdy nests

storing away some tasty treats

out of way from unwanted guests

So, keep your eyes a peeling

you might spot a bird or two

as they head off for a spot of shopping

like the hoo-mans do
