It would be true to say that right now
the poor old trees are confused
while conifers look on
deciduous trees can’t decide
whether to shed their leaves or not
for while our minds are thinking of winter
the sun is still beating a midsummer glow
its deeply worrying for the neighbourhood birds
and the squirrels in the park
as the prowling pussycats parade their grounds
as potential breakfasts hang about
