there used to be a time

when the art of writing

took precedent over noughts and ones

computers connected by

copper wire – communicated

commerce’s transactions

new ideas developed

new products made

new holes excavated

wires of glass flash light

down the line and picked up

by a computer at the end

messages you can now see

and respond face to face

as you talk to some friend

in a far off place
