Why did i agree to this?

#writeclub #Volunteering #Sports

Its Four o’clock in the morning

and i’m up with the lark

the bag is packed for the job

and i’m headed for the park

Breakfast of fruity muesli

builds up my resolve

as i ponder over the job in hand

and problems i might have to solve

I dress up warmly for the task

and head for the football ground

the streets are somewhat deserted

the pigeons – the only sound

My boss hands me a leaflet

with others there in tow

telling us all of the marshalling spots

and places we have to go

So past the grandeur of buildings

and waterways flowing fast

I lead my fellow volunteers

down the road the runners will pass

And soon, there is a rousing cheer

as elite runners do appear

cheering the runners down the street

pounding the tarmac with their feet

And we’re there till last runner’s done their run

in rain and wind, and occasional sun

a motley bunch – lining the banks

with ten thousand runners – giving their thanks….
