I
In my life i’ve had a few pets
and lots of trips to the local vets
i’ve had a dog and lots of cats
but i’ve never had a giant fruit bat
II
You see i always saw them at the zoo
and watched them in flight as you do
catching their goodies in the trees and sky
then landing in their spot in the cave saying hi!
III
I thought it’d be great – in a spot that would suit
feeding them at night their favourite fruit
and while they’d be snoozing having had lots of fun
they’d be safely out of the reach of the sun
IV
And when the sun was low – we’d play about on the lawn
and they’d eat like a king – long after dawn
then he’d hang off his favourite tree branch to sleep
till rise of the moon – when he’d up and leap
V
But others had other ideas – like fish
so i never got to achieve my childhood wish
instead i had Bobby – a black furry cat
who had pointy ears – like my favourite bat.
