The Inkwell

from inkdrop – poetry, places and events

Salford, 29th April 2020

They’re picking up your plastic

your glass, and paper , man

they’re taking it to the depot

in their big new shiny van

They’re re-using all those used things

you would normally throw away

no time to be sticking them in the ground

they’ve found another way

The rubbish is carefully sorted

from the differently bright coloured bins

so there’s piles of different types of rubbish

from plastics and cans, to steel tins

So they’re mulching up yesterdays headlines

for books in the libraries to learn

and they’re sending your food waste for compost

instead of just letting it burn

But its not just the plants that are thriving

some food waste comes back another way

it’ll return in the van, changed by a plan

to collect more things another day

And as the people are in libraries reading

the kids are growing gardens in school

and what do they think of your food waste

when it’s feeding the plants ? they say – Cool!

Thanks for reading cyncoed – glad you enjoyed the read. Popped this on the inkwell as part of Napowrimo – inspiration ? The early morning wake up call from the chirps of the birds – and the bin men! 🙂
