Winter wasn’t kind to our friend round the back
Who was anchored to the rocks by its roots
The evergreens kept a watchful eye
As it sat there dormant in the wind rain and snow
Till one day last week – a clarion call
from our feathered chums returning from their homes in the south
“Spring’s arriving, the sun’s getting warmer”
and our little plant from the far east
began to wake up – and grow its buds
The birds they all cheered – and the wildlife revered
For as they did cheep – out of slumber the maple creeped
