autumn leaves (p) Brian F Kirkham 2017

The change in seasonal colour came quickly this year,

some might say the bright sparks at the weather office got caught out

summers hand seemed to draw into the autumn days

and while winter popped up in the chill of the western wind

the leaves stayed green for a week or two more

till one day the trees said theyโ€™d had enough

and the leaves ๐Ÿย turned like traffic lights from green to red

taking on tones from amber to orange, from red to brown ,

toughening up to face the hardness of winter

as they dropped to the floor below

and the welcome to walkers travelling on this carpet ?

the crunch of leaves ๐Ÿย saying hello ๐Ÿ‘‹

Excellent poem! My favorite line, “and the leaves ๐Ÿ turned like traffic lights from green to red.”

Glad you enjoyed the read. Plenty more where that came from, so feel free to take a dip into the inkwell…
