Overcome

Overcome

September 2017

A reflection of recovery from a spell in a hospital neurology ward

Call it a hill,

you don’t want to climb

you just have to.

that hillface is sharp and craggy

and good heavens – is it steep

but there’s no escaping it

those pesky birds

with their sharpened beaks

enough to make you stop

but what lies at the top

of this mountainous climb

beats diamonds, silver or gold

You’re climbing a mountain

without moving from your bed

The prize ?  Those first few steps forward
