The Canal Path

Theres a place nearby

where things from over the seas

are brought by big boats

they pass quietly

through the deep waterway

carrying their cargo

stopping by a spot

where a very tall crane lowers

its grappling hook

and boxes big or small

rise through the northern skyline

before landing on the wharf

While seabirds watch on

expectantly hoping for

haddock salmon or cod
