Winter’s Tree

#Character #Winter #Seasons #Nature

I wouldn’t want to be a tree in winter

even an evergreen

it’s great when you’ve been decorated

up to the nines for the run up to Christmas day

and you’re all colourful with baubles and lights

but then when the last present has been delivered

and the final carol has been sung

it’s a bit cold, and indeed – a bit lonely

with only the snowmen for company

And then, there’s the leaf losing trees

sat out in the cold and the snow

with the occasional bird coming to visit

telling their tales of their cousins

who flew off to warmer spots

while their arboreal friend counts down

to a warmer time of year

the return of his leaves

and the children playing around him
