I always wondered
When i was little
Why Mum or Dad picked
Their Apples Pears and Oranges
from the back of the fruit stall
nothing to do with ripeness
they said, more to do with hygiene
as they saw fellow shoppers
picking up the fruit – rubbing it, and squeezing it
then putting it back – at the front of the pile
