Birds

Back of our yard

is a great big Acer tree, and a few evergreens, where

resident aviators like to stay out of the cold

daytime, you’ll see them leave the nest

soaring overhead – for summat tasty

But when it looks like the sun’s going away and

insects and worms can’t be retrieved from hardened ground

return they will to enjoy a feast, collected

during the day by mum and dad – only to come out at

sunrise, when they’ll do the same again
