As soon as the smell wondered

past the stairs – you recognised it

perfect company for the bangers and mash

lovely pudding with apples and sultanas

enveloped in a sweet shortcrust shell

Perhaps – its the fruit

it might be the spices – but

everyone knows – its the custard that gets them back in the dining room
