The Inkwell

from inkdrop – poetry, places and events

when the light went out

#WDYS

The Children were puzzled

why Grandad kept that tin box

in the cupboard under the stairs

filled with things

that brought light heat and power

at a moments notice

without the need of

switches batteries or coinage

till one night, there was almighty bang

and darkness over the street did hang

and gramps brought out his torch and lamps

(he’s clever – thought the kids – of their dear old gramps)

and with no computers or TV – they sat without fail

listening to grandad reading a tale

and though it was strange the scene as it looks

no power required – for the story books
