It was going Oh so well

trappings of minor statehood

given to someone unblemished

from the predecessors office

but when he and his wise men

went looking for pennies

to stick in the town hall piggybank

he upset quite a few (not just one or two)

and as schools and sports halls were sold off

and grand schemes of friends they were planned

those they called “The affected”

amassed on Town hall land

our man at the top – reassessed now

and fled for his chauffeur driven car

ending up the next day – somewhere far away

in a place he wouldn’t be tarred
