Little birds learn a lot

from their dear old mum and dad

while they are growing up

What lives around them

their neighbours and the dangers

of a predator

Gaining the skills of

falling with style

while flapping their wings

Finding the right seeds

and avoiding the bad berries

and a tummy ache

collecting dropped twigs

is perfect preparation

for building work

So when the chicks fledge

they pick sticks of their choosing

and trees in their style

to return with their chicks

to visit nanna and grandad

and say “hello there grampa!”
