Awakenings

They say winter’s been shown the back door

and there’s signs and notions of spring

the weather round town ?

mercury’s up and not down

and the blue birds are starting to sing

And while bulbs are starting to pop from the soil

the trees in the garden begin to boil

as petals from acer tree start to appear

growing against evergreens that they are near

While birds return to tall trees

to sort out their nest

returning to the green trees they know best

they’ll skip to the rock garden,

though the soil might be firm

near to the acer – where there’s home for the worms
