raining fish – a pic for the poem created in nightcafe by YT

The children looked out

of the primary school window

at something more unusual than

northern rain

The sea and the wind

were having a blast

delivering fresh fish to the dinnerladies

quicker than any trawlerman

Marine life, flipped into the air

and moved by the wind with an element of flair

some might say with a hefty punch

to ensure the children had fish for lunch

And up en masse – to the locals surprise

fresh fish fell from the northern skies

and many thought it rather odd

the rain contained sardines and cod

And from the harbour – the men with nets

gathered the fish falling – they did their best

the cats watched along – they were having a ball

catching their lunch – as the fish they did fall

and collected together, the boxes did they fill

with scallops, and sardines, place and brill

and oddly enough some octopus and squid

the fishermen tried it – did they like it ? they did!

So the fishermen came home – and the kids licked their lips

a change from the usual cod and chips

as for dinner their mums made a special fish pie

made from the fish, that came down from the sky
