#dailyprompt #wildlife
first things first, I was born in the City of Salford.
back in the days when it was given a charter in the 13th century, I’m pretty sure there was a lot more wildlife than there is now, with most of the land around the ancient halls of the city and vehicles pulled by horses or oxen
foxes badgers and voles a regular sight around the town markets, and feeding from the things that were left behind by the butchers and bakers of the time. They’d take their things back to the trees or riverbank and enjoy them at their leisure.
things change over time though and with medieval pursuits, the growth of towns into cities and the introduction of the motorcar, spaces for the wild animals became smaller and smaller
so it’s no surprise when I’m travelling about the town I might see a wild animal or two. The squirrels have returned to the green spaces, and with fish being reintroduced to parts of the watercourse, everything from gulls to otters have been seen in the river
and if you are lucky enough ….. you might spot an urban fox, trotting casually to his home in the metropolis while the traffic levels have dropped, where’s he been? Off on a shopping trip, much like the squirrels collecting from the trees while most are fast asleep in bed
and as the city awakes, and the birds are chirping away, the foxes badgers and voles are heading for their beds, before having to repeat the routine in a few hours.
