The Sun popped its head above the horizon,

like it had done every day of the holiday

case filled with washing and memories

now waiting in the courtesy room of the hotel lounge

Backpack packed with essentials

Towel, Book, Sunspray, Camera

We headed for final paddle, in the blue of the Greek seas

The Sun Smiled – as i picked up an odd sea shell

it would still be around – only next time i saw it

he’d be dropping rays on a Manchester beer garden

while picking up the colour of lemonade bubbles

bouncing around a Boddingtons Bitter glass

And i’d be watching windsurfers play on the canal basin

instead of catching waves by sandy shores

But the plane wouldn’t be here till the arrival of the moon

Some were still snoozing

but there were Greek gyros awaiting

filled with delights we’d eaten all week

so while they slept on

We played tig with the sea

Before heading for the taverna.
