Still Smiling

#wdys

Sat on the Side of the highway, having

travelled from the county fair on the other side of town

it sits there smiling, doing its job

local drivers smile as occasionally a gust of wind makes it

laugh and say hello, till it sails down

Sitting on a piece of green

most walk on by, but then the children raise a grin as

it bobs about, trying to catch a thermal

lifting into the air, for the briefest of moments

independent and free

navigating the tops of trees till it

gets stuck on a branch or a lamp post
