On Turning 16

You spent all of your teenage years

wanting to be regarded as “An Adult”

heading through the grand halls

of learning – they called “High School”

A Room of your own gave a little freedom

away from Mum and dad

and choices for you to plaster the walls

with the latest musical fad

And sometimes, you’d meet up with your mates

for an indian meal or chinese

filling up with a Korma

or Dim – Sum as you pleased

Of course “Rules of the House” are Gospel

whether you’re a son or a daughter

and not being home at the specified time

would land you in hot water!
