Cupboard in the Kitchen

There was a bit of a crisis

in the house the other day

whilst others were out

enjoying themselves at play

My father was rummaging around the space

looking for that important place

where he’d stored away his favourite hot drink

his supplies had run out – causing a stink

he’d put the kettle on for a brew

but there was no coffee in the jar he could stew

so kitchen cupboards could be heard from afar

creaking as they were left ajar

Thankfully at the back and seated therein

was a silvery can of coffee to begin

and though he had to wait for the kettle to boil

a trip to the market he didn’t have to toil
