An Undignified end

This Marvel of the air

came to an abrupt end last night

as needs of avian and human

met on the tarmac

In a hurry to grab

the tastiest of kernels

our winged warrior collided with a wheel

and ended up – decidedly Flat

Feathers flew frantically, but not

For our feathered friend

but more the seed and corn

which now was spread forlorn

And the only mourners – an occasional rat

come to see our hero , now flat

and from over the river – a frog or toad

to respect the squashed pigeon – by the side of the road
