vending machine age

There used to be a time long ago

when we humans ate animals

to keep warm in the snow

We’d mass produce animals

outside – not in a lab

and carve them up on a butchers slab

and we’d mince them and cook them

after they were dead

Serving them up on two bits of bread

We called it “Fast Food” – The best in the town

you could eat it indoors – or on a rug on the ground

but tastes they do change – the labs they came in

creating the vending ovens of tin

The service attendants – now fill up the stalls

and don’t collect cash – that’s done beyond our walls

as you pay with your card – it’s cooked on the spot

delivered from the machine when its nice and hot

And the cows don’t shudder – nor do they quake

for they still provide milk for the cheese and milkshakes

spending less time in the big dairy shed

and enjoying green grass on which they are fed
